What can I expect in my first appointment?

In your first appointment, you will meet with your therapist to go over the paperwork you completed beforehand. You'll discuss confidentiality, how to contact your therapist, and scheduling policies. The therapist will then ask for more details about why you’re seeking therapy and your background. This information helps us understand what might be affecting your situation and to create treatment recommendations.

Once we gather your history, which may take more than one session, you and your therapist will set your treatment goals and make a treatment plan. At this stage, your therapist will suggest what type of therapy could help you and how often you should come in for appointments.

How long do I need to be in therapy?

It's not possible to answer this on a general FAQs page. Everyone's situation is different. How long counseling takes to help you reach your goals depends on your desire for growth, your commitment, and your reasons for seeking help.

What is a Good Faith Estimate?

If you don’t have health insurance or you plan to pay for health care bills yourself, generally, health care providers and facilities must give you an estimate of expected charges when you schedule an appointment for a health care item or service, or if you ask for an estimate. This is called a “good faith estimate.”

A good faith estimate isn’t a bill The good faith estimate shows the list of expected charges for items or services from your provider. Because the good faith estimate is based on information known at the time your provider or facility creates the estimate, it won’t include any unknown or unexpected costs that may be added during your treatment or costs for reports, records requests, and case management services.

Generally, the good faith estimate must include expected charges for: • The primary item or service • Any other items or services you’re reasonably expected to get as part of the primary item or service for that period of care.

What if I see my therapist in public?

If we see each other outside of the office, I will not acknowledge you first. Your right to privacy and confidentiality is of the utmost importance to me, and I do not wish to jeopardize your privacy. However, if you acknowledge me first, I will be more than happy to say hello and speak briefly with you, but I feel it appropriate not to engage in any lengthy discussions in public or outside of the office.
